IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
During IVF, mature eggs are retrieved from a woman’s ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting. The fertilized eggs (embryos) are then cultured for a few days before one or more are transferred back into the woman’s uterus.
Intrauterine Insemination
Is a fertility treatment where sperm is placed directly into a woman’s uterus during ovulation. This procedure aims to facilitate fertilization by increasing the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes, where fertilization typically occurs.
Embryo Transfer
Where embryos are cultured for several days until they reach the blastocyst stage. A blastocyst is an embryo that has developed for about 5-6 days after fertilization and has differentiated into two distinct cell types and a fluid-filled cavity.
Sample Preparation
The semen sample is allowed to liquefy for about 20-30 minutes after collection. During this time, it transitions from a gel-like to a liquid state, which is necessary for accurate analysis. The volume of the semen sample is measured to assess the quantity of sperm.
